The Duck opened on Duke Street on 29 September, and 19 new companies were registered to Henley addresses. What the register shows, and what it does not.

Nineteen new companies were registered to Henley-on-Thames addresses in September, up from 14 in August. The figures come from the Companies House public register.

The biggest local news among them is not a new company at all. It is last month’s pub company, which now has a pub. The Duck opened at 30 Duke Street on Tuesday 29 September.

The Duck is open on Duke Street

In our August roundup we picked out The Duck (Henley) Ltd, incorporated on 14 August with a Duke Street registered office and pub and restaurant trade codes. We said a registration is not an opening. Three records now show it has become one.

  • The pub guide. The South Oxfordshire branch of CAMRA records that the pub reopened on Tuesday 29 September 2026 under the new name. It lists Brakspear Gravity as the regular beer and says food is available from 5 October.
  • The food register. South Oxfordshire District Council has added “The Duck”, 30 Duke Street, to the food hygiene register as a pub, bar or nightclub. It is marked “awaiting inspection”, the normal status for a newly registered food business. It has no rating yet.
  • The company. The registered office of The Duck (Henley) Ltd is “The Duck, 30 Duke Street”.

The CAMRA entry gives the opening hours as 11am to 11pm Monday to Thursday, 11am to 2am on Friday and Saturday, and noon to 10pm on Sunday. The pub’s own website was still under construction when we checked, so confirm times before you go.

The building has changed hands often. CAMRA’s history of it runs:

Name What happened
The Beer Tree Closed October 2013
Pachangas (Mexican restaurant) Opened April 2014, closed 2023
The Duke Opened 8 January 2025, closed 28 September 2025
The Duck Opened 29 September 2026

That puts a year and a day between the Duke closing and the Duck opening.

We mentioned NSHP and Henley Hills last month, because they were registered in the first days of September.

The one in the town centre

RG Coffee Ltd is the only new food or drink company of the month, and the only one with a shop-front address. Its registered office is 35 Hart Street, in the middle of the town’s main street. Its two trade codes cover licensed restaurants and unlicensed restaurants and cafes.

The council’s food register lists Jacobini at 35 Hart Street. The Companies House record does not say whether the new company is connected to the business already trading there, and we could not find an announcement from either. A registration on its own is not news of a new café, so we will follow it up only if a first-hand announcement or a new food registration appears.

What the register does not tell you

  • A registration is not a shop. Most of these are consultancies and holding companies, which is the usual pattern for a commuter town. Forming a company costs £100 online.
  • Holding companies own other things. Four of the 19 are holding companies, which exist to own shares in other businesses. They rarely mean a new premises.
  • A dormant company is not trading. Scrummy Mummy Limited told the register it is dormant.
  • “Henley-On-Thames” is a postal town, not a boundary. Companies House addresses follow Royal Mail, so the list includes Bix, Crowsley, Kingwood, Middle Assendon and Rotherfield Peppard. It also includes Frieth, which is over the county line in Buckinghamshire, about five miles north east.
  • A registered office is often a home. It is where official post goes, which is why we have not printed the residential addresses.

What it means for you

If you want to try The Duck, the food service CAMRA lists began on 5 October. The pub has not had a hygiene inspection yet. When it has, the rating will appear on the FSA register.

If you are checking out a new local firm, search it by name or number on the Companies House register. The incorporation date, directors and filing history are free to see. None of these 19 has filed accounts yet, and none is due to until 2028.

If you want the businesses actually trading in town now, our Henley-on-Thames business directory lists them with addresses and opening hours.
