Fourteen new companies registered in Henley-on-Thames in August, including a pub company at 30 Duke Street. What the register shows, and what it does not.
Fourteen new companies were registered to addresses in Henley-on-Thames during August, according to the Companies House public register.
The list is a mix of one-person consultancies, two health practices, two trades firms and a company set up to run a pub. Two more have been registered since, on 1 and 3 September.
What was registered, and when
These are the 14, in the order they were incorporated. The description after each one is the nature of business the company itself gave on the register, not our summary of what it does:

The pub company is the one to watch
The most concrete of the fourteen is The Duck (Henley) Ltd, incorporated on 14 August. Three things on its register entry point the same way:
- its registered office is given as “The Duck, 30 Duke Street, Henley-on-Thames, RG9 1UP”, a commercial address in the middle of the town’s main shopping street
- its three chosen trade classifications are licensed restaurants, other food services, and public houses and bars
- it has a single director, appointed on the day the company was formed
That is as far as the public record goes today. A registration is not a licence and it is not an opening. We could not reach a first-party announcement from the operator, and we do not report other outlets’ reporting as fact, so we are not putting a name, a date or a concept to it here. If a premises licence application or a first-hand announcement appears, we will follow it up.
What the register does not tell you
This is the part most “new businesses” lists leave out, and it matters if you are trying to read anything into the number.
- A registration is not a shop. Forming a company costs £100 online, or £156 for same-day incorporation. Many of these will be sole traders incorporating for tax or liability reasons, not new premises on the high street.
- A registered office is not a trading address. It is where official post is sent. It is very often the director’s home or an accountant’s office, which is why we have not printed the street addresses of the residential ones.
- Some will never trade. A proportion of new companies are dissolved without ever filing accounts.
- The town’s name is not a boundary. A company can be registered to a Henley address and do all its work somewhere else entirely.
What the list does show reliably is intent, and where it is pointing. Five of the fourteen are professional or creative services, which is the pattern you would expect in a commuter town. The two health registrations, a dental practice company and a community interest company in human health, and the two trades firms are the ones most likely to mean something physical in the town.
Welvow Community CIC is worth a separate note. A community interest company is a form used by social enterprises: its assets are locked to a community purpose and it cannot simply distribute profits to shareholders. Registering as a CIC rather than an ordinary limited company is a deliberate choice.
What it means for you
If you are checking out a new local firm, look it up yourself. Every company here can be searched free by name or number on the Companies House register. The incorporation date, the registered office, the directors and the filing history are all public and free.
Treat “established” claims against the register. A company incorporated in August cannot have decades of trading behind that legal entity, whatever the signage says. That is not proof of anything on its own, since people do restructure, but it is worth knowing.
A young company has no accounts yet. None of these fourteen has filed accounts, because none is due to. For the August companies the first accounts are not due until 2027, so there is no published financial information to check.
If you want the firms actually trading in the town now, our Henley-on-Thames business directory lists them with addresses and opening hours. We track new planning applications on the Henley planning page.
