What happens in Henley
The running order is Henley Town Council’s own, as published for the 2026 service (Henley Town Council, events; Experience Henley, Remembrance Sunday).
- Shortly before 11am: the Mayor, councillors and Town Clerk gather on the Town Hall steps, led out by the Town Sergeant, James Churchill Coleman.
- The service: led by the Mayor’s Chaplain, Father Jeremy Taylor, Rector of St Mary’s, with prayers, the Mayoral address, and readings from the Town Clerk, Sheridan Jacklin-Edward, and the Mayor’s Cadet.
- Wreaths are laid on the Town Hall steps.
- Afterwards: participants parade around the Town Hall and Market Place, and the Mayor welcomes everyone to a reception in the Town Hall.
Experience Henley lists the event as running from 10.45am to 12 noon.
Market Place will be busy from about 10.30am. There was no traffic order for the service on Oxfordshire County Council’s list of upcoming public events when we checked, and closures will be posted on our Henley roadworks and travel page. Wallingford
Wallingford Town Council organises the town service and parade, on Sunday 8 November in the Market Place from 10.30am, with further details to follow (Wallingford Town Council, Remembrance Sunday 2026). The council describes the usual form: a service at the War Memorial in the Market Place, a parade by marching groups, the Last Post from a bugler and a flypast, then the reading of the names on the memorial and the laying of wreaths (Wallingford Town Council, Remembrance Sunday). In 2022 the flypast came from RAF Benson.
Thame
Thame Town Council lists the Service of Remembrance on Sunday 8 November in its 2026 calendar (Thame Town Council, festivals and events). It has not yet published this year’s times. Last year’s service started at 10.30am in the car park at the Town Hall, ready to process to the Memorial Gardens, and on Armistice Day a trumpeter played the Last Post and Reveille outside the Town Hall for the two minutes’ silence at 11am. The Royal British Legion’s poppy collection outside the Town Hall began on Saturday 25 October last year (Thame Town Council, Remembrance).
Armistice Day, Wednesday 11 November
Armistice Day falls on a Wednesday this year. None of the three town councils has published an Armistice Day event for 2026 yet, and this page will list any local observance once it is announced.
The same weekend
Wallingford’s bonfire and fireworks are the night before, Saturday 7 November from 6pm on the Kinecroft, and Henley has no display of its own this year: see Henley fireworks.
Still to be confirmed
Thame’s 2026 times and route, Wallingford’s full programme, and any road closures around Henley’s Market Place. This page will be checked and updated in late October.
Checked against Henley, Wallingford and Thame town councils’ own pages on 25 September 2026.
